The Gherkin is the popular nickname for the office block opened in 2004 at No.30 St Mary Axe. The road is named after the nearby Church of St Mary Axe (the 'axe' part referring to a relic kept in the church).

I've seen this building from far (when I was on a boat-trip on the Thames). It really caught my eye. Really modern building. 
Now that's what I like to see more: artists really commenting their own work. I've seen too much "..." as "Artist's comment" lately. :-P
Do you also have a picture from the inside of the building (like the hall or something). It really is an extraordinary building. And a nice picture too btw!
